The Romans named this planet after Jupiter, the god of the sky and thunder and king of the gods in Ancient Roman religion and mythology. Some astronomers believe that one reason the Earth is habitable is that the gravity of Jupiter helps to protect it from comets. This idea is also used in the design, where lamp shape is made as a light protective shell. At the same time Jupiter is composed primarily of gaseous matter, therefore the lamp construction is also made light and transparent. The upper clouds at Jupiter's surface are organized in a dozen zonal bands parallel to the equator and are bounded by powerful zonal atmospheric flows. This linear rhythm is also visible in the vertical construction of the Jupiter pendant lamp.
